Jail Issue
I find it very discomforting to realize that a person we elected to protect us has now made a decision that endangers all of us. When our community jail turns away individuals that are a threat to law abiding citizens. We have a problem!
The issue they may sue is nothing but an excuse not to fulfill your sworn oath taken when elected. If any law enforcement officer risks their life to detain or arrest someone because they feel they are a risk to law abiding people and then to have the local jail refuse to confine that person it is beyond reason.
That only puts the risk back on the citizens that law enforcement is sworn to protect. So are we to now understand when a person arrested has a BAC of .25 or more are they refused confinement only to possibly cause an accident that could fatally injure an innocent person?
I also thought this was a community jail? Paid for by both city and county funds. If so, then why is the city not in the decision process?
Does this also mean if they arrest a known felon and that felon happens to have a BAC over .25 they will be turned away until a better day? If this is what the sheriff regards as protecting the people that elected him, I might be a bit concerned.
If there were more officials consulted and then condoned this process it did not appear so in the article. And if so then all blame cannot fall on the sheriff. The individuals from the other counties do not count as they were not elected by anyone in this county.
